All Sixth Form pupils are encouraged to deliver one Becket Seminar each year of their Sixth Form.
Becket Seminars are short lunchtime presentations followed by a discussion which are given by pupils of any age to an audience of pupils and staff.
Pupils can choose to speak about any topic about which they have a particular interest and to which they have devoted serious research.
The Becket Seminar fosters in all pupils a thirst for knowledge and an openness to new ideas. It gives pupils experience of serious research, speaking in public and engaging in intellectual discussion.
Here are some recent examples of Becket Seminar delivered by Sixth Form pupils are:
Tobi Ogunyemi (U6): The Historical Roots of the Conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Harris Leung (L6): ‘Unleashing Your Untapped Potential: How to be the BEST version of Yourself.’
Joshua Simpson (L6): ‘Dr Jose Rizal: National Hero of The Philippines.’
Every year, our Sixth Form pupils have the opportunity to take part in the Royal Institution's 'Sixth Form to Primary Masterclasses.
The Royal Institution (Ri) offers STEM Masterclass projects for sixth-form students. Schools taking up this opportunity bring an exciting volunteering project to their STEM sixth-formers, who undertake Ri training and small-group work to develop workshop activities. The project culminates with the sixth-form students delivering fun STEM Masterclasses to a young audience via Ri primary Masterclasses run at their school.
As well as providing primary school children with opportunities to take part in the inspiring workshops, our sixth-formers gain invaluable life and subject skills
as they develop and lead the workshops.
In order to reinforce the important role that Sixth Form boys and girls play in the wider community of The Cedars and The Laurels, they are encouraged to take part in and play a leading role in the enrichment activities provided by each school:
